Hundreds Fast against Caste Census

New Delhi – July 19,2010 : The demand to exclude caste enumeration from the “Census of 2011” was supported unanimously by hundreds of fasting youngmen and several dignitaries at 13 – Barakhamba Road New Delhi on Sunday under the leadership of Dr. Ved Pratap Vaidik.

People in large numbers representing intellectuals, academics, students, lawyers, lecturers, artists, journalists, columnists, civil society gathered at the venue of the One Day Fast.

Dr Ved Pratap Vaidik, the National Convener of the Movement, stated that the inclusion of caste in Census is the most unscientific way of eliminating poverty from India. It will harm the backward classes the most. It will create an unbridgeable cleavage between various castes in India. It would lead to vote bank politics and poison theminds of our youth.

Former Ambassador Shri J.C. Sharma, Former Cabinet Minister Arif M. Khan, the leader of Poor Christians R. L. Francis, social activist Alaka Madhok, Sh. Viresh Pratap Chaudhary, President of the All India Arya youth Samaj, Mr. Anil Arya, Supreme Court lawyer J.C. Batra, Prof. S. C. Sharma and other representatives of several organizations also observed the fast in solidarity with the movement. They addressed the large gathering totally disapproving the inclusion of Caste in the Census.

Dr. Vaidik announced that a Peoples March will be organized during the Parliament session on 27th July 2010 at 10 PM from 13 Barakhamba Road, New Delhi appealing to the Government and the political parties to give up the proposal to include caste in the census 2011.
