"SLUM'S SOCIAL WORKER"

"SLUM'S SOCIAL WORKER"

They come again and again
In the sun and in the rain

They come to our homes
They come to our streets
They give us toffees, gums
Chocolates and sweets.

They talk to our parents
About health and education
But our parents are in hurry
To go to pull rickshaw
To drive the cars of others
And to wash the dishes
In the kitchen of others
Our own kitchen remains
Dirty and empty

They come again and again
In the sun and in the rain
Having a bag, some files and papers
Some printed and some blank
Always they talk to someone or other
They sit anywhere, do not seem to bother.

Sometimes they also come with a doctor
He tells to be clean & tidy for health matter.

They come now, they come then
They say this, they say that
They ask us to go to them
To learn the lessons they have
Designed for us who live in slums
For those who have not seen school.

They give us food
They give us toys
They give us books
They give us joys
They play with us
They laugh with us

In the beginning they came by bus
In Kurta, Pajama and sleepers in feet
Looking angrily at shinning sun in the sky
But now they come in their long AC cars
Wearing coat-Pant and a shinning tie.
